Melanie Andrews, Recording Artist Offers Scholarship for Young Musicians

Melody Makers Inc. both in Newport Beach and Irvine owned by Melanie Andrews, includes a digital, state-of-the-art recording studio, and a variety of classes for budding singers, dancers, and musicians to hone their talents, learn new skills, record music, and begin a career in the music industry.

Beginning this summer, for the first time, Melanie will be offering a Songwriting/Music Production Scholarship Course beginning on July 9, 2012, for those who would otherwise not be able to afford the opportunity. Funded by the Melody Makers Foundation Scholarship Program, this scholarship presents an opportunity to launch a career in songwriting, music production & recording with hands-on training from industry experts.

On June 9, all proceeds from a masquerade ball fundraiser held at the Huntington Beach Library Theater and Cultural Center will go directly to Andrew’s foundation to fund the singer/songwriter scholarship and the performing arts scholarship.

Melanie explains, “I started the scholarship foundation because we have received much interest from talented kids/teens that did not have the finances available to be a part of our studios and programs. It really hurts my heart when a talented kid or adult wants to work with me or my staff and they don’t have the financial means.”

Scholarship applicants are asked to write a short essay on why the Melody Makers Summer Scholarship should be awarded to them, and what they hope to achieve with the training they receive. After the application has been received, an interview/audition date will be scheduled. The scholarship winners will be announced on June 9, 2012 at The Masquerade Ball.

Melanie started her career in the music industry early. She wrote her first song at 14, but stuck it in a drawer where is sat for the next three years. Three years later, when she was 17, she brought her song, “Let’s Wait Awhile” out of the drawer and longtime childhood friend Janet Jackson recorded it and released it on her CONTROL album, which sold over 10 million copies. She also sang background vocals on many of the hits including “What Have You Done For Me Lately”, “Control” and ”When I think Of You”

This unprecedented arrival into the music scene set her on the ride of her life, winning the BMI Pop Music Award for “Let’s Wait Awhile,” as well as the BMI Millionaires Award. Creating a stir in the music world, Melanie became one of the youngest and most popular female writers in the industry.

Janet Jackson, who was Melanie’s best childhood friend continued to be a great influence on Melanie’s life, yet her own talent is what led her to continue in successful music career.

Her voice can be heard on hit songs of the industries’ top artists, such as: Vanessa Williams, Janet Jackson, Adam Ant, LLCool J,Chuckii Booker, Ralph Tresvant, and Eddie Murphy.

Successful in every aspect of the music world, Melanie has written, produced, and recorded with iconic talent. She has co-written 3 songs with her “all time favorite band” Earth Wind & Fire and following that experience, signed an-exclusive publishing deal with Paramount Pictures Publishing Company where she now has approximately 300 songs in her catalog.

Born and raised in an affluent Jazz Family, Melanie also credits her Grandfather, Snooky Young world-renowned award winning trumpet player, for teaching her the beauty of speaking through music. From her musical family she learned to set the bar high, maintaining a sense of unshakable integrity in an tough industry. Although she has a clean and classic reputation, she has never lost her hipness or flair for the cutting edge.

Music had been her life, but just as she was nurtured musically at a young age, Melanie, was also drawn to helping youth. She has recently obtained non-profit, 5013c status, which will allow her to fundraise and help those in need achieve their music related dreams in her recording/singing/dance studios.

Andrews’ philosophy, “be humble, and work hard at everything you do” is infused in all of her classes. She has lived by these words and it has kept her grounded and is the reason she is now working diligently to pay it forward.
